Point System™ POTS 2-Wire Media Converter Module

CAPTF Series

The CAPTF Series is a media converter module that helps connect regular telephone equipment to other devices that are far away. It has two parts, Unit A and Unit B. Unit A connects to a telephone line or PBX and it can detect when a call is coming in and it can act as a telephone. Unit B is the other part of the device and it can act as a central office and connects to a telephone device. Both units are required to make the full connection. This allows users to connect telephone signals to distant Plain Old Telephone equipment (POTS) using standard telephone signaling methods.

In August 2021, Transition Networks was acquired by Lantronix Inc. The products of Transition Networks will continue to be available from CoverTel as usual. Logo change of products from Transition Networks to Lantronix will be done progressively.

Description

Point System™ POTS 2-Wire Media Converter Module
POTS 2-Wire Copper to Fiber

The CAPTF Series is a media converter module that allows users to connect telephone equipment to other devices that are located far away. It is designed to provide an interface between a twisted pair RJ-11 port and a fiber port, which are the types of ports typically used for telephone connections and fiber optic connections respectively.

The device allows users to connect central-office voice grade signals, which are the signals used for regular telephone calls, to distant Plain Old Telephone equipment (POTS) using standard telephone signaling methods. POTS refers to the traditional telephone system that uses copper wire for voice communication.

To use the CAPTF Series, two units are required to implement an end-to-end system. Unit A connects to a telephone line or PBX (Private Branch Exchange, a telephone system used by businesses and organisations), and has the ability to detect ringing voltages and to act as a telephone. This is known as LINE SIDE FXS (Foreign Exchange Station) and is the part of the device that connects to the telephone line. Unit B is the reciprocal unit and has the ability to act as a Central Office, connecting to a telephone device. This is known as CUSTOMER SIDE FXO (Foreign Exchange Office) and is the part of the device that connects to the telephone device.
